We provide a variety of housing and residential services to assist people with mental illness, substance abuse issues, intellectual disabilities, the homeless, veterans and women with children. Across our programs, each resident is offered the opportunity to establish a Person-Centered Support Plan with our team. Our primary goal is to assist residents in living independently: by providing support and counseling, obtaining public entitlements, mainstream resources, community support and positive relationships so that they may live independently. Residents have the opportunity to participate daily in valued activities like clinical treatment, work, education or other meaningful activities.

Different types of residences

Community Residences

Certified by the Office of Mental Health, our OMH Community Residences provide the opportunity for individuals with psychiatric diagnoses to live in a family setting while developing the skills needed to live independently. Our two sites are located in Beacon and New Paltz, NY. Each home is staffed 24/7, has capacity for 12-14 people, and are considered transitional in nature; the intended length of stay is no more than 2 years. Residents receive support with meal preparation, medication management, chores, social activities, budgeting and transportation.

Eligibility Requirements

Each resident must have Medicaid and is responsible for a monthly rent payment that covers all food, bed linens, furnishings, staff, transportation, support and counseling services, and recreational activities. All fees are based on SSI Level II Congregate Care and Medicaid Restorative Service rates for community residence, and are subject to change.

Certified Apartment Programs

Our certified apartment programs have a total capacity of 39 beds across Ulster County that are certified by the Office of Mental Health. The Newkirk Apartment Program and Rivertown provide opportunities for individuals with mental illness to live semi-independently while developing the skills for independent living. Our professional staff visits in-person 1-5 times a week to provide support, and is on call for phone support. Residents receive support with meal preparation, medication management, chores, social activities, budgeting and transportation. The intended length of stay is up to three years.

Individuals must have a psychiatric diagnosis in order to be admitted to Rivertown and must be dually-diagnosed with a psychiatric diagnosis and developmental and /or intellectual disability to be admitted into the Newkirk program. Each resident must have Medicaid, and is responsible for a monthly rental payment that provides for all food, bed linens, furnishings, staff, transportation, support and counseling services, and recreational activities. Supported Apartments

We provide assistance to individuals with psychiatric diagnoses in locating, renting and furnishing apartments in independent communities. Currently, we have the capacity to serve 146 individuals in Ulster County, and 52 individuals in Dutchess County. There is no expected length of stay, and residents are supported in obtaining public entitlements to further their independence. Individuals are provided with case management services, nursing support, transportation, counseling, and recreational activities.

We provide an initial security deposit as well as furnishings, and a continuing rent stipend. Residents are encouraged to apply for Section 8 and accept the voucher should it become available to them, replacing the OMH subsidy currently in place.

Eligibility Requirements

Residents must contribute 30% of their total income towards the rental cost, with the balance supplemented by Gateway. Each resident is responsible to pay for their own utility costs, public transportation, food, recreational activities and clothing.

HUD Subsidized Housing

Another form of supported housing comes via a grant from HUD to assist homeless disabled single parents, adults with MICA diagnosis who want to work on sobriety, or disabled veterans. Gateway assists with startup costs (like security deposit and furnishings), and provides case management support, transportation, counseling and recreational activities.

Eligibility Requirements

Residents must contribute 30% of their total income towards the rental cost, with the balance supplemented by Gateway. Each resident is responsible to pay for their own utility costs, public transportation, food, recreational activities and clothing.

Both supervised and supportive apartments are offered to provide developmentally and intellectually disabled adults with room, board, service coordination and residential habilitation services. This includes Maiden Lane which is split into a 5-bed male supervised IRA and a 5-bed female supervised IRA in Kingston, and 15 Supportive Apartments across Dutchess and Ulster Counties. Qualifying recipients receive residential support such as meal preparation, medication management, chores, social activities, budgeting and transportation.

Eligibility Requirements
